31st Oct 2002 - Album of the Week

The award for album of the week goes to Brown Plant lover, the new release from Norwich-based alternative Indie group, I am Pansy. A mass of one-chord drones and vocal samples from local farmers, the first track, ‘Ploughing Woe’, could be described as hermaphrodite-organic-sci-fi.

Then suddenly it all falls into place, with gentle sexless waves of theremin that speak volumes. Animal noises drift above the theremin to fill the void. Imagine the silent bits of ‘Low’, the feedback moanings of ‘Death in my head’  and the clucking and mooing of a farmyard sample. They end their eight hour epic with a looped sample asking, “Why are my trousers caught in the stile?”

Pure, unadulterated bliss.
